Can I finish well?
The answer is YES. I can finish well. I may have had a bad start in life. I may have messed up along the way. I may have made mistakes. I may have regrets. But I can finish well and that is what matters most. It is more important to finish well than to start well.
Some start well but fall. Even the ‘mightiest’ of companies can fall. Even Goliath, the tallest man in the Bible fall.
Jesus, as always, shows me the way. His life was relatively short. He died in his early thirties, yet he finished well. He prays to the Father, ‘I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do’ (John 17:4).
This is my ambition in life. I want to complete the work God has given me to do.
But how can i make sure i finish well?
To avoid the temptation and to focus just on the here and now, and act in the light of eternity. Continue to listen to parental advice. Honouring our parents is high on the list of God’s priorities. Our family life and good parenting are so important. Always guard my lips. Those who guard their lips guard their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of my words and of controlling the tongue. Let's work hard. Work is a blessing. Success can be hard work. It requires diligent perseverance. I must love the truth. Be a person of integrity. Integrity does not mean being perfect. It means being honest, "real and authentic" (it is the opposite of hypocrisy). Integrity is the key to success. A person with integrity has the – often rare – ability to pull everything together, to make it all happen no matter how challenging the circumstances. Obey God. Partial obedience is still disobedience. Always honour the Lord to the end.
John 14:1–3
Jesus said, ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.’
