When i was a child, me and my siblings are watching on a black and white television set. We could never get a very good picture; it was always fuzzy and going into lines. We are quite happy with it since we did not know anything different and we lived in a simple life when we are all young.

But one day, we discovered that all it needed was an aerial! Then suddenly, we found out that we could get clear and distinct pictures. Our enjoyment was transformed. Now, not only do we have colour television, we can get high definition (HD). There are no more fuzzy lines or distortions, and it produces a richer, bolder and a more vibrant picture than ever before.

Rather than black and white, or even coloured, Jesus offers us high-definition life. There are two Greek words for ‘life’. The word ‘bios’, from which we get the word ‘biological’ means the condition of being alive rather than dead – mere existence. The other word ‘zoe’ means the full, abundant, spacious, open-hearted, richness of life that Jesus speaks about – a life of fulfilment and purpose. This is life in high definition.

We enjoy the HD life. We see a description of what this life is like. It is not mere existence. It is high-definition living. It means enjoying God’s delight. It is a life of freedom. It ‘ends only in good’. When we are generous, we are ‘enriched’. When we ‘refresh’ others, we are being ‘refreshed’. This does not mean that life is without its difficulties, challenges and suffering. But ultimately, we will be crowned with blessing. We will find goodwill and will ‘thrive like a green leaf’.

Now my family, my siblings in particular, we are facing battles. Some felt used, abused, underused, undervalued etc etc. all of us want to be valued for what we do. We are being criticized on the way we do and the way we act. But we will put all of our confidence and trust in God instead of our own ability to cope. Whatever God has asked us to do that may seem impossible for us, we know it’s not impossible for Him. May our lives be an inspiration to many people.

But there is also a warning. A warning not to love and boast this HD life. A bright and flashy screen could danger your life. It could cause blindness in your eyes. Loving the blessings more than the blessor would one way or another ruin the good life God planned for us. The love of money is the root of all evil.

But God had planned something better for us…’

(Hebrews 11:40). We can enjoy an even better life than Gideon or any other characters in the bible or any people around us. Do not worry about what other people think. What God thinks is what matters. Encounter Jesus today and enjoy the full, abundant, spacious, open-hearted, high-definition life which Jesus offers. We can enjoy full, abundant, spacious, high-definition living by faith in Jesus.

Lord, thank you that I can enjoy ‘high-definition living’, life in all its fullness, through faith in Jesus.
