During my childhood my father introduce sandpaper in various kinds. He said each type of sandpaper serves different purposes. Depending on the grade, it can range from the semi, smooth or very rough in texture. For example, the softer grade is meant to finish off any final touches on a project where only a little bit of polish is needed. The very rough type of sandpaper is meant to dig in and take off any areas that are uneven or unpleasant to the eye.
Maybe we’re going through a season where we are experiencing a very big trial like this CoVid-19 pandemic virus. We feel like our particular troubles are about to swallow us up or overwhelm us. These are the moments that are refining us just like the rough sandpaper. They are meant to polish off major areas where we need adjustments or upgrades in our character. Of course, this polishing process doesn’t feel good. We may go through moments of asking “Why me?” Why us? or even downright despair. Please be encourage through this process. At the end, we will see the good that was intended through it all.
If we’re enduring small irritations or problems that just seem petty, we’re in the smoothing process. This is where God is trying to adjust small areas of our life where we need a slight upgrade. Perhaps there is a relationship issue that keeps cropping up and we need to set a boundary. As we learn to confront those small areas we will notice a difference in our circumstances.
Thank God for the smoothing process because it all works together for our ultimate good.
